Eternal Joy

Eternal Joy

The world will never satisfy us.

Absolutely never.

No matter how much of ourselves and our time we put into things of this world, it’ll never bring us everlasting happiness and fullness. No amount of money, romantic relationships, drugs, sex, possessions, friendships, and family will ever satisfy us. The only one who can is our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. You may be thinking that this is such a profound statement. Just sit and ponder about your life for a minute.

What material possession has ever given you joy in your life? Not happiness, but joy. Joy fills you with that satisfaction, whereas happiness is short-lived. Have you felt that satisfaction so intensely that it causes you to cry tears of delight? The chances of that are slim. When something happened that made you overjoyed, how long did that last? Sure, we feel great in the moment; but at the end of the day, we’re still broken and feeling as though something is missing. There’s always this void in our spirit that we know is causing hurt and pain. We fill this void with temporary commodities that, in the end, will not bring us the substantial amount of joy we feel when we’re with Jesus.

We can’t live without taking the time to dive into deep intimacy with Him. This means being close to Him. Letting God into your mind and heart. Allowing Him to be your first priority. Intimacy is such an important aspect of our walk with Christ. When you have intimacy with God, you can recognize how He loves you and how it brings you fulfillment. You’ll also begin to see God and His love everywhere. As you look around, you’ll see it within creation, in people, and in scripture. It’s important to remember to have time every day where you are just with the Holy Spirit. It doesn’t matter what you’re doing. He just wants to be with you. As you practice this more and more, your heart will be more understanding of God’s heart. You’ll become more focused on Heavenly things rather than what’s on earth.

Now since we’re far from perfect, we’ll still fall short even when we seek the Lord every day. We’re only human, so aspects of the world will still bother us because we’re living in the middle of it. And sometimes, we forget that our time here is only temporary. This isn’t our real home. Doesn’t that change your perspective of life? Since our lives are so short, we need to make the most out of every day. We can make the most of our numbered days by solely being with Jesus, indulging in His word, and sharing the good news with others. When we get to Heaven, all the pain from our life on earth will dissipate. We’ll all experience eternal joy because we’ll be in the presence of God for all eternity. Doesn’t that sound like it’s worth all the struggles and suffering we face in the world? If everyone knew about this amazing news, the world would be changed. We can influence the mindset of cultures when we share God’s righteous love. Go out, love God, and love on others. You can be a change even if all you do is give someone a warm smile. Sometimes that’s all it takes.

In conclusion, spend time with Jesus. He's the reason we're alive...the reason for our very being. He loves you more than you can comprehend. God wants you to use the knowledge of His adoration for you to influence the world in the right way. Not to judge others or bring condemnation, but to bring joy and love.
