So…you’re a young adult wondering what to do after high school. You feel confused, conflicted, scared and even anxious about transitioning into adulthood. You’re wondering what’s out there in the world and what your options are. You may not be certain about your next step, but you do know that you don’t feel led to go to college or university right after graduating. That’s fine, as it’s completely normal to feel this way. It’s easy to stumble and lose your way among the chaos of life. Many young adults struggle with wondering what their purpose is. That’s one of the reasons why many people desire to take a gap year. You can gain and learn so much from it. Whether you want to travel, learn a new language, or just do something you’ve never done before, it’s a good idea to take a year off. If you’re looking to grow in your faith and relationship with Jesus and gain amazing experiences and relationships, then taking a gap year by doing a Discipleship Training School is the best and most rewarding option.During my senior year of high school, I was still unsure of what I wanted to do with my life. I found myself becoming very paranoid because I thought I had to have my life all figured out. Among the chaos and stress, I kept getting little signs from the Lord, and they appeared in the most random ways. I knew in my heart that it couldn’t be a coincidence and that it was from God. He also spoke to me through a few churches I visited. They each mentioned YWAM and had someone they were sending out to do missions in another country. This moved me, and it was when I truly felt that I should be involved with Youth With A Mission by doing a DTS.
For me, taking a gap year was the best decision and transition for my life. I didn’t know how truly lost I was until I came to Los Angeles to do a DTS. It was out of my comfort zone to even leave my home and head into the unknown, and I was pushed even more during DTS. However, we need to leave our places of comfort so we can grow and become the person God designed us to be. All we need to do is take a leap of faith.
Taking a gap year to participate in a school here is so beneficial to your life because you get to experience things that you wouldn’t experience otherwise. You’re able to encounter God in such a real and beautiful way, meet people from all over the world, build strong relationships, travel, and most importantly… transform lives.
Don’t forget that there’s nothing wrong with taking a break from school. You can always go to college or university whenever you feel ready. Until then, there are many opportunities waiting for you here at YWAM LA! We’re all called to great things, what if your calling is here?
